The homemade ice cream is still made using the candy recipes from the Puritan on Hanover Street. "Chicken tenders" actually originated at the Puritan and to this day is still the most requested dish on the menu. The boneless breast of chicken with our famous special sauce (a creation of Charlie Pappas) is still the most asked about recipe on the menu. As you look around the restaurant, you will see pictures of Arthur Pappas and Louis Canotas, the first generation. You will also see pictures of Charlie Pappas, Plato Canotas and Milton Canotas, the second generation. The blood, sweat and tears that these gentlemen put into making the Puritan what it is today will never be forgotten. Also, ask people what the Puritan on Elm Street meant on Thursday evenings, and you will hear some very entertaining stories. You will be surprised to hear how many people have worked at the Puritan over the years. In 1990, Charlie Pappas figured up until that time, over 50,000 greater Manchester residents had worked for the Puritan! Many of them still regale us to this day about the wonderful times they had experienced either working for on patronizing the Puritan. With time comes change and with each generation come wonderful and exciting new chapters in the Puritan History.
